African Lion

 

     The African Lion originally ranges from the southern Sahara to South Africa, excluding the Congo Rain Forest Belt. Its main habitat is located on grasslands and open woodlands. Some of special Lion adaptations are:

    - Thick main helps to make the male look bigger and protects the throat.

    - Heavy muscled forelimbs and shoulders add strength for capturing large prey.

    - Forepaws equipped with strong claws to help hold prey.

    - Rough tongue designed to peel skin off prey animal.

    - Loose belly skin allows animal to be kicked by prey with little chance of injury.
